Fifteen College students from around Texas and beyond gathered on Galveston Island for three days from January 8-10, 2019 for the first retreat of its kind in an effort for all retreat participants to grow in the Orthodox faith and to strengthen friendships. This year’s theme related to a popular board game, Trivial Pursuit, and allowed for great discussions regarding what is important in life, especially as it relates to living a life fully in Christ and His Holy Church. The retreat was held at the Kaitson’s beachside home on the Gulf of Mexico and generous parents provided the food and snacks throughout the retreat. A special ‘thank-you’ to: Father Michael Lambakis, Dean of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston for providing his blessing and guidance to move forward in planning the retreat, to Chris Kaitson for hosting and working non-stop to ensure the retreat went smoothly, to JoAnna Nicolaou for organizing and developing the retreat schedule, to Matt & Stacie Malinese for taking the time to visit with the young adults and talk to them about life after college. The retreat concluded on Thursday with a Divine Liturgy, served by Proistamenos of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Galveston, Father Stelios Sitaras, Father Christopher Xanthos of Holy Apostles in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Father Jeremy Troy of Annunciation Cathedral in Houston. Liturgy was followed by brunch at a nearby restaurant and the retreat participants then said their farewells and returned to their homes and colleges. We look forward to another great retreat next year!!!
